This is, at least, the fifth blog that I’ve started in the last 15 years. There was More Or Less, The Conch Shack, Kiva Cup (which I still contribute to on occasion but is now under new management), Good Fences Good Leaders (the topic of which I decided was better suited for a book and presentation), and this one. Honestly, there may have been one or two more, but this is the only one in which I’ve actually invested any money, so I’m committed to seeing what I can do with it. So much has changed since More Or Less, not the least of which is my writing style, and I wanted to let you guys know that I recognize that I have a lot to learn, and re-learn, about the blogging world. Thank you for sticking with me on the road to awesome.
A couple of quick observations I’ve made since starting this blog:
1. Seventy-five percent of you – OR MORE – are reading this on some type of mobile device. That’s astounding (and Google Analytics is wicked sick)! I’m typing this post while seated at the desk in our home office, on a hardwired keyboard plugged in to a tower computer. You guys are reading this from exotic locations like the beach, the pool, or the car line at school. So, I’ve learned at least two things:
- The content needs to be mobile-device compatible. I’m guessing not many of you actually saw the video clip from the Duf Decided post, because it is a flash video and you guys are using iPods and iPads.
- There’s a need for brevity on my part. You don’t want to read a 3,000 word post on an iPhone, and I don’t blame you.
2. Social media drives traffic to my website (again, Google Analytics is mind-blowing). Of the 12 people who visited Friday’s Caribbean Clash post within the first hour it was posted, 11 of you got there via Twitter. How did anyone EVER find More Or Less? With such an influence from social media, I now have a Facebook page. I’m probably the last, but I’ve found that when you spell your name wrong you can always get the account name that you want, and better late than never. I actually have a personal page and I have a page for this blog. I also have to figure out you guys can ‘Like” my page. So much to learn, so much to learn.
Thanks for coming by. Have a great day, and thank you again for sticking with me during this learning season. We’ll get to awesome together!
