Are We There Yet?

Do we have a new President yet?

Doesn’t it seem like we should be done with the whole election cycle by this point? I mean, I’ve run out of things to write about and these jokers are STILL going at it for a nomination.

I’ve told you guys that I’m not really all that political. The whole thing is more like vaudeville to me, with some goofy characters occasionally coming up with a funny one-liner. Like the time in a debate when Cruz was telling Trump to “Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.” and Rubio quipped, “While they’re finishing their yoga, can I answer the question?” That was funny!

The one-liners have run out, however, and his thing has gone on too long, and I didn’t mean to demean vaudeville. Vaudeville was entertaining. This election cycle is more like Emeril Lagasse’s sitcom on NBC. The show had amusing moments, but the characters tried too hard, or not hard enough – who can really tell, and I wanted to like it, but I just lost interest.

This election is like Emeril’s sitcom. I want to like it, but I can’t.

Once upon a time in my voting life, Alabama held its primaries in June. JUNE! Six weeks away from where we stand today! Good grief, groundhog! (I don’t know, it just came to mind.) No wonder turnout was so abysmal.

There has to be a better way to get, and hold, voter attention. Maybe voter attention isn’t really what the candidates want, and that’s why we have the system we have. Hmmmm.

Anyhoo, I owe you guys an honest to goodness blog post. I’m long overdue. I’ve said this a hundred times, but getting up a 4:30 in the morning to do anything is a pretty easy habit to break. I will work on a summary of our spring break trip and have it posted next week, lest any of you are planning a trip to Savannah during the summer. As with any trip, the journey is at least as much fun as the destination.

Enjoy your journey today!

My Christmas List

Leah keeps asking me what I want for Christmas. What better way to get off the blogging hiatus than to put your Christmas list out there for everyone to see? Maybe you can get some ideas for someone, so here it goes:

The Buckwaters 30oz Traveler Insulated Cup – just because I want one.

Rogue Lawyer – It’s funny, I bought All Over But the Shoutin a couple of months (MONTHS) ago and I still haven’t read beyond the first four pages. I enjoyed the first four pages, but I just haven’t made time to read the rest. I also haven’t finished Do Over or Smart Money, Smart Kids. Maybe when Santa brings the kids new games and toys for Christmas, I can steal away a few moments to finish those books, but not if I get the latest John Grisham book. I’ll have Rouge read before my birthday, or at least New Years. First edition, please.

Men’s Bean Boot by LL Bean, 6″ (Backordered) – I had a pair of these boots in college. Loved them! Wore them even if it wasn’t raining. I kept them and wore them until I moved in to a house on 19th Street South. I left them on the front porch one night because they were muddy and wet, and when I went out the next day, there was only one boot on the porch. The right boot. I theorize that a dog took the left boot. I looked around the house, even asked the homeless guys that lived in our earthen basement, but never found the left shoe. It was a bummer day.

The Barnaby, Ski Cabin, Pietro Lucchi, or the Guido Delgado – Because that’s how I roll.

That’s really all I have, except maybe a new pancake griddle or maybe a portable heater (though I haven’t really come up with a good, continuous reason why I would need such).

Now, I could walk through the Nike store, or Bass Pro Shop, or the Apple Store and spend $1,000, but I don’t WANT any of that stuff enough to put it on a wish list. I’m kind of a simple man I guess – I just need something to keep my coffee hot, my feet dry, my head warm, and a good book. You kids get out of my yard!

The truth is, if I don’t open a present this year, I’ll be fine. I’ll wear the boots and hat that I already have, finish one of the books that I’ve already started, and drink coffee from one of my 8 coffee mugs that are already my favorites.

You would be okay, too. ‘Tis better to give than to receive. It really is.

The 19th Annual Old School Christmas Party is tonight! We started the event when 5 of us (3 singles and a married couple) lived in a house together on Overton Road. We were pretty good cooks for a bunch of 20-somethings that had really only watched our moms cook. The party doesn’t go as late as it used to, but it’s still a lot of fun. I’m just going to leave this right here in case any one needs a refresher…Dirty Santa.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! See you soon.

Are There Unicorns in Fairhope?

I just had to get something posted this morning. It’s been kind of too long. Have a great Friday!
